  • Trays

How Does LapStacker work?

LapStacker is a retractable belt that fits to the majority of wheelchairs. To operate it, simply slide your fingers into the loops, bring the two sides together, and they will connect magnetically.

To release the belt, push the two sides together and they come apart. You can hold on to the fabric finger loops while the belt retracts.

Will LapStacker Work on My Chair?

There are two types of LapStacker – the Flex and the XD.

LapStacker Flex for manual chairs

LapStacker Flex can be fitted to manual wheelchairs, either horizontally for single tube frames or vertically for parallel duel tube folding frames. It also works on some lightweight power chairs, such as the Quickie Q50 range and the Whill.

The device sits under the seat of a single tube frame chair and vertically on either side of your chair for folding frames. This means that it is safely out of the way when pushing your chair.

Fitting is easy – clip the two sides together and some position the sticky Velcro according to the instructions provided. You may need someone to assist you with this if you have reduced hand function.

There are a few options for the belt clip housing so you can choose which position suits you best.

LapStacker XD for powerchairs

The LapStacker XD is compatible with top power wheelchair brands including Amylior, iBOT, Invacare, Merits, Ottobock, Permobil, Quantum, and Quickie (and more we are still discovering). It slides onto your seat frame’s T-slot rails and adjusts easily into the perfect position.

Here is what our director, Rob, says about the LapStacker Flex:

I installed my demo version of Lapstacker a few weeks ago not knowing quite how often I would use it. Now that Lapstacker is a permanent fixture on my chair, I have been surprised at how often I use it to prevent the frustration of things I’m carrying on my lap falling off. I find it particularly useful on the school run as my daughter passed me her school bag, coat, hat and junk model she has made today and I can actually push around in my wheelchair knowing all those items are secured to my lap and will not fall off.

Magnetic Buckle Set

We expect the LapStacker to last a long time, Rob has had his Flex for years! But with wear and tear you may find that the Magnetic Buckle Set needs replacing. That’s why we now offer this as a separate purchase. It is easy to replace at home, and you’ll be back to using your LapStacker in no time! If you’re not sure if you need a replacement buckle kit please contact our helpful team.

If you are looking for a way to keep your phone securely attached to your wheelchair, check out our Flexi Phone Holder.

Incredibly useful, from securing a ‘modesty’ towel over my legs before getting dressed, to collecting large boxes at the store. Recommended. Only criticism is the instructions regarding raised or flush seat base – I have a Quickie and it fits the ‘raised’ description, so we undid the screws and tried to fit the straps, no go, the ‘raise’ is not high enough. So we fitted as per ‘flush’ instructions (way easier with no necessary tool work) and so far, so good. You will not regret buying this kit.

Update – a small piece of plastic cracked off from the mount for the magnet, when I unclipped it. Have some concern that the plastic on this part is a bit brittle. Will need to see if this causes a problem, as obviously if the magnet should dislodge, then the kit would become useless. Docked a star as this is not cheap, to break after so little use. Fingers crossed this will remain a cosmetic issue only.

We would not expect any part to break off LapStacker. Our dispatch team will be in touch to sort out this issue for you.

I have a Ki Mobility rigid chair. If I place it in front of my cross bar underneath, it is too far forward. If I place it behind the cross bar, it is too far back. I have to dig for it between my roho cushion and clothes guard. Because of that, when I release it, they get caught. Still trying to figure out a way to rig it so this is not a problem. Other than that, it does hold things in place and I am very happy about that.

It is an incredible invention, it has definitely made my life easier and less frustrating, not having things fall off my lap all the time! I have a RGK Tiga and because of the position of the bar underneath the seat it is a little awkward to position it, but with a bit of trial and error I have fitted it and had no issues so far (fingers crossed). Other then that I would recommend it anyone!

Was a bit fiddly for my retired draughtsman friend to fit as my invacare Action chair didn’t resemble any options in the instructions. He sorted it out though and it works beautifully. It holds almost anything firmly on my uneven lap. Just need to find a tray that it can hold safely so that I can carry food and drinks from the kitchen to the dining room. I would heartily recommend it.
